For more than 30 years, the 340B Drug Pricing Program has helped safety-net providers stretch limited resources, expand access to care, and invest in the communities they serve. When 340B is implemented well, it can do far more than lower the cost of medications. For some clinics, it can become the financial engine that sustains and advances the organization’s entire mission.

We have seen that impact firsthand.

We have also seen how difficult it can be for grantee organizations to access practical 340B education that reflects their realities. Much of the existing education is broad, technical, or oriented toward hospitals. Meanwhile, leaders and employees at Ryan White grantees, Section 318 STD clinics, and Federally Qualified Health Centers are busy serving their communities every day. They need a clear way to understand what matters, why it matters, and how to apply it.

That is why we created 340B Academy, a free learning program built specifically for grantees.

Helping Grantees Take Greater Control

Across the country, community-based organizations are doing the difficult work of finding patients, linking them to care, and keeping them engaged in treatment. Many serve hundreds of people living with HIV and patients receiving PrEP while relying heavily on grants to sustain their work.

Yet some of these organizations do not fully participate in the financial value created through the care they provide. Instead, prescriptions and the associated 340B benefit may flow to another health center, hospital, or outside pharmacy organization.

That does not have to be the only path.

We believe grantee leaders should have the knowledge needed to evaluate their options, ask better questions, make informed decisions, and determine what kind of 340B program best serves their patients and mission. If we can help more community organizations move one step closer to controlling their own 340B future, that is a mission worth pursuing.

Introducing Our First Course

The first 340B Academy course, An Introduction to 340B for Grantees, offers nearly two hours of free video education across 24 lessons and six modules:

  1. Why 340B: Understand the program’s purpose, stakeholders, financial model, and mission-aligned use of proceeds.
  2. 340B Eligibility: Explore the eligibility pathways available to Ryan White grantees, Section 318 STD clinics, and FQHCs.
  3. Getting Ready: Learn the foundational registration, Medicaid, compliance, and policy requirements that should be addressed before launch.
  4. Pharmacy Operating Models: Compare contract pharmacies, in-house pharmacies, and different approaches to pharmacy ownership and operations.
  5. In-House Pharmacy Excellence: Examine what it takes to launch, operate, and grow a successful entity-owned pharmacy.
  6. Current 340B Landscape: Understand the funding, policy, and manufacturer trends reshaping the program today.

The course is designed for executive leaders, clinical and program teams, pharmacy and operations teams, finance and compliance professionals, and anyone who is simply looking to build a stronger foundation in 340B.

We built the program around a simple question: How can we give people serving their communities every day exactly what they need to get started and continue advancing their knowledge of 340B?

That means translating complex concepts into clear explanations, grounding lessons in realistic examples, and connecting every topic back to practical decisions. It also means helping people across an organization build a shared understanding, because a strong 340B program requires collaboration across leadership, clinical care, pharmacy, finance, operations, and compliance.

340B Academy also includes a free 340B Tools Library with resources that help turn learning into action:

  • 340B Savings Walkthrough: A step-by-step explanation of how 340B pricing generates net proceeds.
  • 340B Stakeholder Map: A visual guide to the key players in the 340B ecosystem and their responsibilities.
  • 340B Reinvestment Case Studies: Examples of how clinics use 340B proceeds to support programs, staff, and community services.
  • Pharmacy Pre-Launch Planning: A detailed checklist and planning guide for opening an in-house pharmacy.

Knowledge checks, quizzes, and a final assessment are also planned to help learners reinforce key concepts and test their understanding.

Free Today and in the Future

There is no cost to take the course, and we are committed to keeping every 340B Academy course and resource free, now and in the future.

This is only the beginning. We are planning a live, cohort-based version of the introductory course that will combine the curriculum with weekly check-ins, peer learning, and group accountability. We are also developing a new course called “Advanced 340B Concepts and Tactics” for leaders and operators who want to go deeper into compliance, operations, and program optimization.

Our goal is ambitious but simple: educate thousands of grantee leaders and employees so more organizations can use 340B confidently, responsibly, and in service of their communities.

We invite you to explore An Introduction to 340B for Grantees, share it with your team, and tell us what you want to learn next. Your feedback will help us strengthen 340B Academy and shape future courses, tools, and live learning experiences.

When 340B is done right, it can become the financial engine that sustains your mission, expands your reach, and gives your organization greater control over its future.

Disclaimer: 340B Academy is educational in nature and does not provide legal advice, continuing education credit, or Apexus Certified Expert certification. Eligibility and compliance decisions depend on the specific facts of each organization and arrangement.
