September 25th marks World Pharmacist Day, a moment to celebrate the vital role pharmacists play in healthcare delivery. In the US, patients interact with their pharmacist nearly twice as often as with their primary care provider, making pharmacists the most accessible point of care.

Last month, I had the privilege of leading a workshop at the 2025 United States Conference on HIV/AIDS (USCHA) titled Expanding PrEP Access Through Pharmacist-Led Initiation. This session explored how pharmacists can drive equitable HIV prevention by initiating PrEP directly within clinics and community settings. I'm pleased to share the full session recording today.

Together with partners from Raphael Health Center, the LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada, and the NASTAD, we shared real-world experiences and practical tools for implementing this model. Our objectives were to:

  • Show how pharmacist-led models can streamline same-day PrEP access in clinical settings
  • Outline the workflow, staffing, and regulatory elements needed to operationalize PrEP prescribing through pharmacists
  • Share lessons from Alchemy’s early implementations to help other design or improve their own PrEP programs

The conversation underscored what we celebrate today: pharmacists are trusted, highly trained professionals who meet patients where they are and close critical gaps in care.
